Third Form

This is what you can expect in Third Form:

Getting to Know You!

During Third Form we will ask you to fill  in the 'Getting to Know You' form. This is a document which will contain information about you, your future aspirations and what you have done, or are doing, to ensure you achieve your goals.

During some of your discussions during Lessons for Life (LFL) you will start to examine what is important to you, reflect on your personal skills and attributes and how these might influence your future decisions in gaining fulfilment.

GCSE Option Choices

This is one of the most important tasks this year. Your approach will need to be considered when thinking about your options for GCSE:

Which subjects are you good at?

Which subjects do you enjoy?

Which subjects may you need to study to progress onto A Level?

Which GCSEs or A Levels do you need for a specific degree (if you have a set progression route in mind)?

Which GCSEs, A Levels and/or degree) do you need for a career of interest to you?

Look through the Options Booklet (coming soon!) and speak to staff if you have any queries.

Outline Careers Programme: Third Form

The aim is to introduce pupils to careers in general and to help them with GCSE choices.

  • Pupils are introduced to the Careers Department on entry to St Peter’s. At this point a pupil file, or portfolio, is started and information collated and collected on each individual. Pupils begin in Third Form by telling us about themselves and their aspirations and this information forms our initial assessment of the support required
  • Pupils are introduced to a range of careers related topics in the Lessons for Life programme
  • A Third Form Introduction to GCSE Choices Evening is held for parents and pupils to discuss GCSE options and deadlines for decisions. In addition the Careers programme throughout the school is outlined with key transition dates being highlighted
  • Start to relate personal skills, interests and strengths to information on careers
  • Understand what is involved in making realistic choices
  • GCSE option choices - one-to-one discussions and guidance regarding choices in the light of future aspirations

By the end of this year pupils should:

  • Understand the term ‘career’ and what impartial advice is available to them
  • Explore careers using the IT programmes, software and presentations, all designed to help and support their inquisitiveness about careers
  • Understand what the Careers Department can offer them, know how to use the Careers Library, and the members of staff in school who can support and offer advice
  • Have opportunities to reflect on their personal qualities and identify skills and abilities that they can transfer to both academic and work situations
  • Identify targets for developing skills and attitudes
  • Think coherently about the options available to them at GCSE.
