Sixth Form

Sixth Form is the time to fine tune your academic achievements, aim high for excellent A Level results, which will mean that you are well placed against the competition when it comes to securing the very best University places or career pathways.

Throughout your Sixth Form years you will be given a number of important tasks to complete. Most importantly, for the majority of you, will be completing an application form, whether this is for UCAS, an apprenticeship or employment opportunity. There are lots of options available to you and you should investigate the links on the left to get the very best of which ever scenario you find yourself in.

Outline Careers Programme: 

The aim for pupils in this year group is to ensure that they make timely applications and are prepared for possible interviews. Advice and support is provided to assist pupils when making choices.

  • One-to-one meeting are conducted throughout Sixth Form to explore a pupil's interests, skills and attributes and how these might be utilised beyond St Peter's
  • individual guidance is given to pupils on completing applications to universities as well as employment opportunities
  • STEP (St Peter's Enrichment Programme - topics relevant to higher education, employment, Student Finance, living away from home etc. are discussed)
  • mock interview preparation is provided, including tips on techniques and mock interviews by external experts (e.g. for medicine) where appropriate
  • support and advice is provided to pupils as required on Results Day and beyond.

By the end of Sixth Form pupils should:

  • work independently and continue to use the skills they have been taught, in preparation for life at university or within employment
  • seek timely advice if they require mock interviews
  • understand the process for UCAS, student finance and securing student accommodation to ensure smooth progression to higher education
  • understand the entry criteria for courses and put together a good UCAS application with realistic aspirations
  • make applications for apprenticeships or employment
  • stick to deadlines!
  • make contingency plans if the results of their examinations are uncertain, or they are making a highly competitive application for courses such as Medicine, Veterinary, etc.
  • make good plans for a gap year which will need finalising by the end of the school year
  • start to think of, and prepare for, life beyond at St Peter’s.
