Fifth Form
Fifth Form is both an exciting and important time for your future. This is the final push towards GCSE examinations and you will shortly need to make decisions about your choices for A Levels. However, before you get to that stage there is lots to consider:
Morrisby Profiling
In the Autumn term of Fifth Form you will be invited to take the ‘Morrisby’ test. This consists of an ‘interests’ questionnaire together with a three hour comprehensive psychometric test made up of twelve different assessments designed to help build a picture of personal strengths, interests and abilities. The test publisher uses the results of the tests to produce a personal and detailed report which will be available to you during your first term. You will be given indicators of where your strengths lie and how you can identify any areas for development. It is important to point out that this is not a definitive document and will not tell you what career to pursue, but one to be used as a guide. Following receipt of your report, you will attend a one-to-one meeting with a Careers and Higher Education Adviser to discuss your results which may help to inform your decisions about next steps including which A-Levels you might choose to study.
A Level Option Choices
In the Fifth Form you should start to conduct research into university options to ensure that you take the correct A Levels appropriate to a degree that will interest you and will eventually secure the career of your choice. This is a process which cannot be rushed and you should consider your options very carefully.
Work Experience
In an increasingly competitive world we want to ensure you are as prepared as you can be.. Therefore, after GCSE examinations in Fifth Form we would recommend that you take part in work experience. This is a brilliant time to think about your future. What would you like to do once you have left school or university? We want to know so that we can ensure we do our best to get to where you need to be!
For work experience it is always ideal if you source your own placement as this develops the skills you will need to find employment in later life. You can do this by using contacts you already have and approaching them with a good covering letter and CV. Alternatively, if you are unsure where you could find a placement, you should speak to the Careers Department who have contacts with a range of employers in the area. Remember that this will look great in your personal portfolio and is something you may be able to refer to in your UCAS Personal Statement.
