Choosing a course

Despite being so far away, studying in Australia or New Zealand is, in many ways, similar to studying in the UK. The range of subjects you can choose from is vast, so choosing the right course is important. There is also an opportunity to study subjects not widely available in the UK, such as:

  • Tropical marine biology
  • Antarctic studies
  • Maritime archaeology
  • Asia-pacific diplomacy
  • Sports psychology
  • Indigenous history and culture

In Australia and New Zealand, you choose to study a subject which appeals to you, but the options are more flexible.  You will select a 'major', which you will specialise in and have written on your degree certificate, but each year you'll get the opportunity to study a number of subjects outside of your major, called 'electives'
